Gillian

Gillian was referred to The Friendly Trust in November 2024 after concerns were raised about financial exploitation. A man who initially presented himself as a volunteer carer had gradually taken control of all her bank accounts. He gave Gillian limited access to her own money through a separate account and regularly used her Motability car, racking up numerous penalty charge notices — all in Gillian’s name.

As her Appointee, The Friendly Trust now receives all of Gillian’s benefits and has provided her with an Equals Card, giving her safe and flexible access to her money. We’ve been working closely with the Safeguarding Team to try to release the man’s name to the relevant authorities and companies issuing the fines.

Although Gillian has recently spent time in hospital, we’ve been coordinating with Social Services to prepare for her move to a new home. Her utilities are being reviewed, and we’re ensuring everything is in place to support her transition and financial wellbeing.
